Description
History
The story of this company begins when Marilena Barbera, after years spent outside her native Sicily, rediscovers the vineyard and her father’s dream. Marilena produces its wines following the rules of organic farming and natural winemaking, without the use of herbicides, chemical fertilizers, with the utmost respect for the terroir and biodiversity of Menfi; the wines ferment only spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. In this context the elements of this Sicilian land can really express themselves: when we uncork a Marilena Barbera wine in the glass we find the bright sun of Sicily, the influence of African maritime winds and the echo of ancient civilizations that once inhabited the area.

Production method
The grapes are harvested by hand around mid-September. The entire production process is manual, without the use of additives or machinery. It follows that the quantity of wine produced is very limited. Fermentation is spontaneous and takes place thanks to indigenous yeasts and lasts for 7 days on the skins, in a steel tank. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine ages for 5 months in tonneaux and is bottled with all the sediment directly by gravity. Production of 1996 bottles, all numbered with obviously handwritten label and sealed with sealing wax.

Tasting notes
At sight it has a deep and bright amber yellow color, slightly veiled. Explosive and intense aroma on the nose: notes of ripe yellow fruit such as apricot jam, orange blossom, bitter orange, broom, balsamic notes of Mediterranean scrub and laurel, thyme, marjoram and incense; all accompanied by a persuasive minerality. In the mouth it is direct, full, enveloping and with a fruity texture, to then reveal a pleasant and fresh acidity and very slight tannins.
Possible combinations
Special wine to be savored in all its sensations and peculiarities, excellent as a meditation wine. It goes very well with sea urchins, tuna roe, grilled fish in general and also slightly spiced white meat dishes.
