Description
History
Nikka is a famous Japanese whiskey distillery, created by its founder Masataka Taketsuru. Taketsuru, descended from a family of sake producers, traveled to Scotland in 1919 to acquire the knowledge necessary to produce a high quality Japanese whisky. After completing his studies, Taketsuru returned to Japan and founded the Nippo Kaju company, opening a distillery on the island of Hokkaido, later renamed Nikka Whiskey in 1952. Over the years, Nikka has grown into one of the best distilleries in the world and has inspired many other professionals to create Whiskey Made in Japan.
Production method
single malt whiskey is produced by malting barley, in which starches are transformed into simple sugars. After germination, the barley is dried in peat ovens to give it its characteristic flavour. The barley is then ground and added to hot water to extract the wort, which is fermented and distilled. To be called a single malt, whiskey must come from a single distillery in Scotland and mature in oak casks for at least three years.

Tasting notes
It has a light and bright amber color, with notes of cedar, candied citrus fruits and orange blossom, smoke and sea salt. On the palate it is broad, powerful and alcoholic, but with a nice finesse and persistence on the finish. The salty and smoky notes return on the finish and retronasal.
Usage
Perfect at the end of a meal or as a meditation; particularly recommended for lovers of Japanese whiskey, but still able to express aromas, character and substance. Great as a gift!
