History
The history of Johnnie Walker dates back to the early 1800s and is intertwined with the history of Scottish whisky, specifically Blended Whisky. John Walker, a farmer with a keen business sense, started blending whiskies after the death of his father, going against the trend of producing Single Malt whisky at the time. This led to the creation of more balanced products and consistent quality. Alexander Walker, John’s son, inherited the business in 1857 and through effective marketing, including the creation of the recognizable slanted label and square bottle, grew the company’s success. The subsequent generations, George and Alexander II, brought the company to new heights by creating the Red and Black Labels and associating colors with blends. The company logo, featuring the “Striding Man,” was also created. Today, Johnnie Walker is one of the largest whisky producers in the world, known for its Blended Whisky products made with the best whiskies of Scotland.
Production Method
Blended Whiskies are whiskies obtained by blending other whiskies, whether they be Single Malt or Grain Whiskies. Among the first to use this production method was Johnnie Walker himself, in order to obtain more balanced products and greater consistency. The Master Blender is a key figure, who selects the various “bases” with skill in order to create high-prestige blends. This blend is created with Cardhu and Clynelish.
