History

Glenfarclas is a distillery located in the county of Speyside, in the Highlands area. The translation of the name means “valley of green meadows”. It is still managed by a family today and remains one of the few independent companies, unlike most of the others which are controlled by large corporate groups. The distillery uses pure water from Ben Rinnes springs, carefully selects the barley and has some of the largest stills in all of Speyside. Also, it still uses the old method of direct fire heating. For the refinement, wood from the ex-Sherry casks of Seville is used, a now rare practice.

Production method

The process begins with malting the barley, during which the starches present in the cereal are broken down into simple sugars suitable for alcoholic fermentation. This takes place in three phases: the maceration of the barley in water, germination and drying. Subsequently, the barley is ground and added again with hot water, extracting the wort which will be fermented and distilled. The final refinement, including the choice of the right wood, is essential for the sensations that the distillate will acquire.

Tasting notes

Light amber colour. On the nose notes of peach and syrup apricot, raisins and dried fruit, vanilla and sherry. On the palate it is soft and gentle, pleasantly elegant and persistent.

Usage

Perfect at the end of a meal or as a meditation; particularly recommended for lovers of elegant and refined whiskeys. Great as a gift!
