Description
History
The foundation of the maison takes place in 1776, but it will have the turning point when it will be taken over by Louis Roederer in 1833, who in addition to naming the company with his name, will introduce innovations for the care in the cultivation of his own vineyards, and will buy new ones personally selecting the best. Thanks to the attention to these details, his bottles will soon reach the United States and in particular Russia, reaching the table of Tsar Alexander II. It was in 1876 that the first “prestige cuvée” was created for the Tsar marketed under the name of “Cristal”, which will soon become one of the best-selling and universally appreciated champagnes for its great elegance and quality. Even today this great elegance constitutes the unique style of the company, known and appreciated all over the world with more than 3,000,000 bottles produced and marketed, under the guidance of the seventh generation of the family. We arrive at this version through the collaboration between the maison and the architect Philippe Starck, for the realization of what appears to be a stylistic renewal or rather a real challenge launched by both; the label, with a completely different graphic aspect compared to the classic and prestigious design usually used by the maison, already underlines this aspect, while in the product we will find the exaltation of the natural characteristics of the grape and of the terroir from which it comes, with procedures of biodynamic agriculture.

Production method
It is produced according to the so-called methode champenoise or classic method, a method in which the wine substantially undergoes two different fermentations: the first, the alcoholic one (which it shares with the rest of the wines) takes place in vats for fermentation; the second instead takes place directly in the bottle and ensures that during this second procedure, thanks to particular yeasts, the wine also develops carbon dioxide (which will then give life to the famous bubbles when uncorked). The grapes used to produce this product come from vineyards cultivated using biodynamic agriculture to respect the natural expression of the plant and fruit.

Tasting notes
It is presented in the glass with a crystalline and bright straw yellow colour. The nose perceives notes of yellow fruit, white flowers and citrus peel, followed by some notes of yeast, toasting, sweet almond and butter. All this is accompanied by a constant and present minerality, which enriches the already important nose of this wine, and by a spicy and persistent finish. In the mouth, the creaminess and enveloping typical of the style of this maison is first perceived, only to then leave room for a very perceptible but never over the top acidity. We then find the persistent minerality that we had felt on the nose and then arrive at a long and extremely pleasant finish. Truly top and for connoisseurs.
Possible combinations
Great success because it is able to maintain the style of such an important and historic company but at the same time enhance the low dosage and the terroir of the Vallé de la Marne, all while also launching a graphic “challenge”. Meditation product par excellence, with nuances to be truly discovered.
