Description
History
It was in 1971 that Giuseppe Cortese decided to start producing Barbaresco in his own vineyards, strongly believing in the potential of this area; thus the first Barbaresco Rabajà was born. Today the company involves Giuseppe’s sons who cultivate about 8 hectares of vineyards with method and passion in full Rabajà. Austerity intertwined with elegance is how we could describe the wines of this company which combine the very first characteristic of the Nebbiolo grape with the nuances dictated by the climate and the particular soils.
Grapes used
100% Nebbiolo
Production method
The Nebbiolo grapes used come from a vineyard of approximately 1 hectare which is approximately 70 years old and come from Rabajà. After the harvest, the grapes ferment in contact with the skins for about 35 days. Subsequently the wine ages for 40 months in Slavonian oak barrels and a further 3 years minimum in the bottle before being marketed.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby red colour. Notes of fresh fruit combined with notes of raspberry jam, blackberries and currants with dried violets. Nice mineral note and spice of vanilla, black pepper, tobacco and cigar. On the palate it finds this elegance and minerality typical of the company and the area, with a nice persistence.
Possible combinations
Ideal on first courses with truffles, medium or very mature cheeses, or with second courses of meat or of the Piedmontese tradition. Also excellent as a meditation wine.
