Description
History
The Bombay Sapphire distillery is in Laverstoke, a village in the north of Hampshire, England. The surrounding habitat is ideal for the production of quality gin and the distillery is located in historic buildings which have been documented since 1086. In the 1700s the fame of gin began to spread throughout England and so production was intensified; The recipe was born in those years and is still unchanged today. The botanicals used are about 10 and they are all exotic mainly from India. Another peculiarity is that CarterHead stills are used, which allow a more delicate and particular extraction of the gin. Today the company is owned by the Bacardi group, which however leaves ample room for the company to keep the quality level of the product high.
Production method
To produce gin it is necessary to “aromatize” an alcoholic base with some elements of which one of the components or often the main one is juniper. This can happen in various ways: either through maceration of the botanicals in alcohol, which is then redistilled to find a colorless and “cleaner” product, or the botanicals can be placed in a container placed above the alembic, so that alcohol in the form of vapor extracts aromas and perfumes.
