Description
History
The Giacomo Conterno winery was founded in 1900 in Monforte d’Alba by Giacomo himself, descendant of a family that has been producing wine since the beginning of the last century. A few years later, in 1912, his son Giovanni would bottle the first Barolo, a rarity at the time as the wine was mainly sold in barrels or demijohns. In 1924 the first vintage of Barolo Monfortino will be produced, so called in honor of the place of origin. 40 years later, in 1974, Cascina Francia in Serralunga d’Alba was purchased; this area is particularly suited to the production of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes and agriculture will be set according to the qualitative standards that have always been used also for the production of Barolo Monfortino.
