Description
History
Domaine Drouhin is today the largest and most extensive estate in all of Burgundy and can count on 80 hectares of land divided as follows: 38 hectares in Chablis, 38.5 hectares in Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune, 3.5 hectares in Côte Chalonnaise. Within these, most are vineyards classified as Premier and Grand Crus, all planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The “domaine” was expertly built over the years by one of the most important families in the French wine scene, thanks to targeted purchases and agreements between local families; some vineyards are counted among the most famous in Burgundy such as Clos des Mouches, Montrachet Marquis de Laguiche, Musigny, Clos de Vougeot, Corton-Charlemagne and others.

Production method
The pinot noir grapes used for the production of this wine come from the municipality of Vosne-Romanée, one of the most famous and enologically interesting municipalities in Burgundy; one could even say a myth of Burgundy! The agricultural techniques used are organic farming techniques from 1990, converted a few years later to biodynamic. The elements that truly characterize these wines are the soils, mainly made up of very ancient calcareous marl and chalk, the vineyards also have very ancient origins, and exposure to sunlight and drainage is among the best possible for the production of quality wine . The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo a soft pressing, after which the vinification process with fermentation on the skins lasts for 2/3 weeks thanks to indigenous yeasts with frequent submersion of the cap (usually once a day). Aging takes place in barriques (20% new barriques) and lasts for 14-18 months, during which the wine is frequently checked so that the elegance and expression of the territory are as always at the highest levels.

Tasting notes
At sight the wine has an intense ruby red color, with a garnet edge. Notes of extreme elegance are immediately perceived on the nose, with hints of small red fruits such as red currants, blueberries and berries, with violet flowers, balsamic notes and calcareous minerality, with notes of tobacco, vanilla, star anise and damp undergrowth. In the mouth the wine is enveloping, refined, soft and velvety, but also of great structure. The tannins are very elegant and silky, with a fresh final acidity and pleasant notes of spice. Unique and unforgettable.
Possible combinations
Vosne-Romanée is the synthesis of elegance in a wine in the glass. We strongly recommend it as one of Drouhin’s best pinot noirs in terms of quality-price, therefore it is a candidate to be a great meditation wine. In excellent combination with savory first courses, for example with forest mushrooms or truffles, or with savory main courses of white meat. Also perfect with medium-aged or savory cheeses.
