Description
History
The family history of the Bruno Clair domain is quite complex and articulated, as often happens in Burgundy estates. The viticultural origin of the family dates back to the beginning of the 19th century and Bruno is the representative of the sixth generation of winemakers. His grandfather, Joseph Clair, originally from Santenay, married Marguerite Daü in 1919, who cultivated vineyards in Marsannay-la-Côte. Joseph Clair acquires vineyards in Gevrey-Chambertin (including Chambertin Clos-de-Bèze and Cazetiers), Morey-Saint-Denis (including Bonnes Mares) and Chambolle-Musigny. In 1954 the company was renamed as Domaine Clair-Dau and vineyards were gradually acquired throughout the Cote des Nuits. The Domaine as we know it today was established in 1986 and today the children of Bruno and Isabelle are also engaged in the company with their roles: Edouard, Margaux and Arthur.

The vineyard is cultivated with the Pinot Noir vine on an area of approx. 84 to 75 m. The soil is of clay-limestone type, with a subsoil of Comblanchien limestone. The exposure is mainly east-south-east, at an altitude of 320 meters. The vines were planted in 1948.
The vinification involves the use of 20-30% of whole bunches and a maceration in wooden vats for 10-15 days. The refinement takes place for 18-20 months in oak barrels, with about 30% of new barrels.
