Description
History
In the 18th century Stefanus Jermann migrated from the Austrian Burgenland to the village of Bilijana (now part of the Slovenian nation). In 1881, Anton Jermann moved to Villanova, establishing his roots in Friuli. Angelo Jermann, in the 1940s, will implement both qualitatively and quantitatively the production and cultivation of vines and livestock, contributing to affirming the company locally and nationally. The modern history of Jermann begins hand in hand with the vision of Silvio Jermann, son of Angelo, who, upon returning from his overseas experiences in the wine field, will work to create the blend of grapes which will then lead to his most famous product: the Vintage Tunina . This wine was officially launched in 1975, immediately receiving excellent reviews from international critics and helping to establish the company as one of the most interesting realities in Friuli.

Production method
The first taste tests date back to the 1973 harvest and the first vintage released on the market was in 1975. The grapes are carefully selected first in the vineyard and upon arrival in the cellar, so that only the best ones become part of the blend. The harvest is late, about two weeks after the normal harvest on a vineyard area of about 16 hectares on the Ronco del Fortino. The name “Tunina” refers to the old owner of the land and is also dedicated to one of Casanova’s lovers. The vinification takes place in steel tanks while the refinement for a part of the wine obtained is refined in Austrian wooden barrels of 60-80 hl. The bottle is closed with a stelvin cap, also known as a screw cap.

Tasting notes
At sight it has an intense straw yellow with golden hues. The nose is very broad, vibrant and intense, alternating notes of freshness with sensations of exotic yellow fruit, ripe mango, papaya and pineapple, yellow peach, wild flowers, chamomile, acacia honey, saffron pistils. More veiled notes that appear on the finish of wild herbs and peppermint leaves, all on a “background” of minerality. In the mouth it shows a formidable character, attacking with good softness and vibrant freshness. The finish is mineral and intense.
Possible combinations
Is it really important what we pair with this wine? Defined by many experts as one of the most interesting meditation wines in the Italian wine scene; to quote Cesare Pillon’s words “a wine that should not be drunk while meditating, but a wine that actively induces meditation…”
