The Guicciardini Strozzi family boasts over 1000 years of history with documents attesting to the presence of the family as early as 994 in Cusona, the historic family property. This extends for 530 hectares among the green Tuscan hills, in the San Gimignano area. The Strozzi family was also one of the most important Florentine families in the Renaissance period as well as the main rivals of the Medici; in 1600 the family became related to the English nobles Marlborough, the family of Ser Winston Churchill and we remember among the illustrious ancestors also Lisa Gherardini del Giocondo, famous for being represented by Leonardo da Vinci in the famous painting. Today the family boasts various possessions in Tuscany, precisely in San Gimignano, in the Chianti Classico area, in Maremma and in Bolgheri.
Aged for 12 months in French oak barriques and aged for over a year in the bottle.
Ruby red color with garnet reflections. Refined and elegant on the nose, it opens with notes of plum, black cherry and violet followed by spicy aromas of tobacco, cinnamon, leather, licorice and vanilla. Full-bodied in the mouth, with enveloping and mellow tannins. Fine and elegant aftertaste.
It goes particularly well with grilled meat, roasts, braised meats, mushrooms and aged cheeses.
