Description
History
The Leone de Castris company, founded in 1665 by Oronzo Arcangelo Maria Francesco dei Conti di Lemos, is one of the longest-lived in Italy. In 1943 the winery created the legendary Five Roses, the first rosé bottled in Italy, thus renamed by an American general who asked for a large supply to be sent to the United States. Today the production includes about 2.5 million bottles and combines the traditional vines with international vines such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The commercial network exports their products all over the world.

Tasting notes
The wine has an intense and impenetrable garnet red colour. On the nose hints of fruit in alcohol, black cherries in alcohol, blueberry jam, plum and berries. The spicy notes of vanilla, licorice, bitter chocolate and toasted almond are also very identifiable, which significantly enrich the bouquet of the wine. On the palate it is very soft, enveloping, warm and powerful. It closes with a nice acidity and light and almost “suggested” tannins, which makes them really very elegant.
Possible combinations
“Donna Lisa” Leone de Castris is a powerful and structured red wine, recommended to be paired with main courses based on red meat or game, preferably not too fat and succulent.
