Description
History
The story of this company begins when Marilena Barbera, after years spent outside her native Sicily, rediscovers the vineyard and her father’s dream. Marilena produces its wines following the rules of organic farming and natural winemaking, without the use of herbicides, chemical fertilizers, with the utmost respect for the terroir and biodiversity of Menfi; the wines ferment only spontaneously thanks to indigenous yeasts. In this context the elements of this Sicilian land can really express themselves: when we uncork a Marilena Barbera wine in the glass we find the bright sun of Sicily, the influence of African maritime winds and the echo of ancient civilizations that once inhabited the area.

Production method
The vineyards are located on soils rich in limestone and influenced by the sea winds, factors which give the finished wine minerality. The harvest takes place between the first and second week of September; the wine undergoes spontaneous fermentation in steel with maceration on the skins for approximately 8 days. After malolactic fermentation in steel, the wine ages on the skins for 6 months.

Tasting notes
Intense golden yellow color with pleasant greenish reflections. The nose is complex and with maritime connotations: notes of ripe yellow fruit, orange pulp, apricot and acacia flowers, oregano, rosemary, sage, mint, nettle and green tea, with a sensational savory note. In the mouth it is full, robust, smoothed by a pleasant softness and held up by a good acidity and a marked minerality.
Possible combinations
Very suitable with roasted fish, grilled prawns and other grilled seafood. It also lends itself to pairing with some savory first courses, such as pasta alla norma, carbonara and platters of semi-mature cheeses. “Coste al Vento” is able to release a complex and intriguing plot, for which it is also a candidate to be a meditation wine.
