Description

History

Eligo dell’Ornellaia Grappa Riserva is a grappa produced on the Ornellaia Estate, in Bolgheri, in Tuscany. Since the opening, which took place in 1981, the products of this estate have fully reflected the characteristics of both the terroir of the Bolgheri area and the philosophy of quality and refinement of the property, which has been in the hands of the Frescobaldi family since 2006. Eligo dell’Ornellaia Grappa Riserva, entirely produced and aged in the Bolgheri area, is designed to rank among the highest quality grappas on the market.

Grapes used

Pomace of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot

Production method

It is produced at the end of the winemaking processes of the estate’s wines, when the pomace is entrusted to an artisanal distillery in the heart of the Bolgheri countryside. The marcs used are mixed between those of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, and are then aged for a period of 3 years, almost double compared to the aging required for a reserve grappa, only to be completed with the addition of reserves from previous years, in order to achieve greater elegance and better balance.

Alcohol content

44%

Tasting notes

It has a clear gold color to the eye, with honeyed nuances. On the nose, alcoholic and spicy hints follow each other elegantly; in the mouth good alcohol but dampened by the long aging, with a persistent and pleasant finish.

Usage

Eligo dell’Ornellaia Grappa Riserva is an ideal grappa for unforgettable moments of relaxation or as a meditation wine, alone or in the company of special friends.

Frescobaldi

The history of the Frescobaldi family in Tuscany is often the story of Tuscany itself; tradition and roots date back as far as the 1300s, when Dino Frescobaldi, a poet friend of Dante Alighieri, returned to him the first seven cantos of the Divine Comedy, allowing him to complete the work. Around the same time, the family acquired some estates in the Chianti area and began producing and selling wine. Many centuries later, in about 1855, they were the ones to plant some international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay right here in Tuscany. The 1900s was a century of great revolution for Italian agriculture and therefore for the company as well; production methods were innovated and new possessions were acquired thanks to the wise guidance of Vittorio, Ferdinando, and Leonardo Frescobaldi. Today, the baton has been passed to Lamberto Frescobaldi, a member of the thirtieth generation of the family, who, armed with the knowledge he has acquired, manages the family heritage. The company boasts among its estates Castello di Nipozzano and Castello di Pomino in the Chianti Rufina area, Rémole alle Sieci, Tenuta di Perano in Gaiole in Chianti, one of the family's most recent acquisitions, Gorgona on the homonymous penitentiary island, Tenuta Castiglioni in Montespertoli, Tenuta Castelgiocondo in Montalcino, Tenuta Ammiraglia in the Maremma, and the latest addition Tenuta Calimaia in Montepulciano. The Frescobaldi family manages and owns Ornellaia in Bolgheri.
