Description
History
Piper-Heidsieck is a historic champagne house founded by Florens-Louis Heidsieck. The maison got off to a very good start, so much so that in the very first years it was chosen as the favorite maison of the French queen Marie Antoniette. Over the years, even Marilyn Monroe has not let slip the appreciation for the champagne produced by this company. Today the company is part of the EPI group, an investment group that also owns, among others, the Charles Heidsieck and Biondi Santi maison in Montalcino.
Grapes used
Chardonnay 70%
Pinot Noir 30%
Production method
It is produced according to the so-called methode champenoise or classic method, a method in which the wine substantially undergoes two different fermentations: the first, the alcoholic one (which it shares with the rest of the wines) takes place in vats for fermentation; the second instead takes place directly in the bottle and ensures that during this second procedure, thanks to particular yeasts, the wine also develops carbon dioxide (which will then give life to the famous bubbles when uncorked). The product ages for at least 84 months on its lees.
Tasting notes
It has a straw yellow color tending towards gold. Delicate notes of ripe peach, jasmine, elderflower, brioche, custard, melted butter on the nose. On the palate it is crunchy, with a very fine bubble and ripe and yeast notes that return to dominate the scene, balanced by a great minerality.
Possible combinations
Champagne for a great occasion. Perfect for special occasions and the absolute star of any tasting or evening with friends. Ideal pairing with refined fish dishes, gourmet dishes or slightly fatty first courses.
