Description

History
Castello di Ama selected the best grapes from its historic vineyards — Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni — to produce this cuvée that expresses Gaiole in Chianti’s terroir at its fullest. The vineyards are situated at 460‑525 m altitude, with mixed north‑east/south‑west exposure, on calcareous and clay soils. Hand harvest took place from September 13 to October 6, 2021; fermentation separately with indigenous yeasts in steel, malolactic fermentation, followed by 12 months aging in barriques (22 % new) according to Gran Selezione rules, then bottled in June 2023.

Grape variety
Sangiovese 80 %, Merlot 13 %, Malvasia Nera 7 %

Vinification
Fermented in stainless steel with temperature control, using indigenous yeasts; approx. 22 days maceration for Sangiovese, similar times for Merlot and Malvasia Nera. Aged 12 months in barrique (22 % new, remainder second‑passage) before bottling in June 2023.

Alcohol content
13.5 %

Tasting notes
Deep ruby red color. Nose of black cherry, currant, violet, licorice, earth and leather. Palate is full, juicy, with elegant, well‑integrated tannins, supporting acidity and a long, intense finish with fruity and spicy echoes.

Food pairing
Pairs excellently with roasted meats, game, hearty stews, rich sauces, game dishes and aged cheeses. Serve at 18‑20 °C.

Castello di Ama

Founded around the 70s thanks to the vision of four families of Roman origin, with the aim of revitalizing the area and the vineyards and giving the Chianti Classico the fame it once had. The vineyards extend over an area of about 75 hectares at an altitude ranging from 475-520 m which are the cradle for wines of character. Today the leadership of the company is entrusted to Lorenza Sebasti, daughter of one of the owner family who has taken over the management of the company since 1993. Today it is affirmed among the most dynamic realities of the Chianti Classico, capable of blending together local grapes with international vines, for results of elegance and finesse both in the mouth and on the nose.
