Description
History
Bolgheri Superiore DOC “Guado al Tasso” 2016 is a wine produced on the Guado al Tasso estate of the Antinori family. The Antinori family has been producing wine for more than 25 generations, exactly since 1385. In particular, the Guado al Tasso Antinori estate is located within the small but prestigious DOC of Bolgheri; the year of establishment of the disciplinary and the DOC is relatively recent (we are talking about 1994) but the wines produced in this area have been able to establish themselves in recent years among the most appreciated wines in the Italian and world panorama. As a family, the Antinoris have always been present in Bolgheri: the land where the estate stands today has belonged to the family’s ancestors since the second half of the seventeenth century and they were already involved in the production of wine. However, the first real turning point came in the first half of the 1800s thanks to Guido Alberto della Gherardesca, who devoted himself to improving the winemaking facilities of the area. Around 1930 the estate was inherited by Carlotta della Gherardesca Antinori, the mother of Piero Antinori, and instead the nearby San Guido estate will go to her sister who is married to Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, who will be the first to glimpse the similarity of the area of Bolgheri with that of the Graves area of Bordeaux and will therefore lay the foundations for the production of Bolgheri DOC as we know it today. The grapes grown are mainly international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot but also Vermentino.

Production method
The grapes are selected both during the harvest and after the destemming process, for qualitative purposes. Depending on the state of ripeness of the grapes, the grapes are vinified separately in order to enhance the characteristics of each one (in any case the grapes are left to ferment for about 10-15 days). The wine is drawn off and immediately transferred to barriques, where it undergoes malolactic fermentation by the end of the year. Subsequently, the best parcels of wine are combined, and the final result is left to age in wood for 18 months before being bottled.

Tasting notes
At sight it has an intense ruby red color, with hints of garnet nuances. On the nose there are evident hints of ripe red fruit and dry floral, such as plum, cherry and potpourri. Elegant aromas of sweet spices, deriving from the aging in wood. Soft, powerful and warm in the mouth, but still balanced by a sharp and young acidity and elegant tannins, which “wash” the sip. The finish is also very long and pleasantly spicy, always with references to pepper and tobacco.
Possible combinations
The wine represents the essence and spirit of the style of the estate and of the Bolgheri terroir. Loaded, intense and fragrant, it is perfect to accompany red meat main courses, even quite tasty and spicy, or game, or medium-aged or aged cheeses. It is also possible to wait a few years before uncorking and then the texture of aromas and nuances thickens, making it a real meditation wine, to be discovered sip after sip.
