History

The Poggio al Tesoro winery is located in the renowned wine area of Bolgheri, in Tuscany, and was founded in 2001 by Marilisa and Claudio Gamberini together with the oenologist Luca D’Attoma.

The property includes about 70 hectares of land, 32 of which are used for the cultivation of vines, where mainly international varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Syrah are grown, but also native vines such as Sangiovese.

The company’s goal from the beginning has been to produce high quality wines that reflect the Bolgheri area and that could compete with the most famous wines in the world. Thanks to the great passion and experience of the owners and the oenologist, the wines of Poggio al Tesoro were soon appreciated by critics and consumers from all over the world.

Today the company is considered one of the most important in the Bolgheri area and produces high-end wines such as the famous “Sondraia”, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, which has received numerous international awards.

Production method

It is a fine wine that comes from the selection of the best Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc grapes, grown in the Sondraia di Bolgheri vineyard. After the manual harvest and fermentation in steel, the wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barriques and then aged in the bottle for a further 6 months.

Tasting notes

The wine has an intense ruby colour. On the nose it is possible to perceive a rich and sophisticated bouquet of red fruits, pepper (typical of Cabernet), undergrowth and Mediterranean scrub, with nuances that evolve towards notes of rosemary, vanilla and chocolate. On the palate it is fruity, elegant and ripe, soft and well balanced by silky tannins and a pleasant final acidity. The gustatory persistence is long and engaging, with hints of spices and Mediterranean hints.

Possible combinations

It goes perfectly with grilled meats, especially the prized Chianina breed, but it also goes well with kebabs, veal roasts, ossobuco and spare ribs. Also excellent with medium-aged hard cheeses and smoked ricotta.
