Description
History
In 1980 Pier Luigi Neri inherited a farm near Tuscany: a 19th century house and vast land, a small paradise in the countryside of Sarzana, in the province of La Spezia, which would become one of the most appreciated wine-growing realities of the Colli di Luni DOC . This success is due to the high quality of the Il Monticello company’s products and the care and respect for nature, both in the vineyards and in the cellar.
Alessandro and Davide Neri, passionate winemakers, are the heirs of those first cuttings of Vermentino, Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Ciliegiolo planted over 40 years ago. Thanks to their studies in agronomy and engineering, the two brothers have made the most of these crops, transforming Il Monticello into a successful company.
With over 14 hectares of vineyards, Il Monticello today produces around 100 thousand bottles a year, a significant number for a difficult land like Liguria, characterized by steep slopes that hinder the cultivation and maintenance of the vineyards. However, care and respect for the vine are fundamental principles for the Neri brothers, who know well that the vineyard is generous and repays those who take care of it with dedication.
