History
Toscana IGT “Guerrante” 2009 Renzo Marinai 75 cl bottle is a red wine produced by the Renzo Marinai winery of Panzano in Chianti, in Tuscany. The Renzo Marinai estate, called San Martino a Cecione, takes its name from the nearby ancient church of San Martino. The oldest structure on the farm is a watchtower dating back to 1163 AD. which was part of the defenses of the Florentines against their traditional enemies, the Sienese. Renzo Marinai himself entered the estate in 1996 and with the support of the winemaker Giovanni Cappelli, completely reorganized its operations, transforming it into a fully organic farm. This was a logical step as the farm had long been run along natural and biodynamic lines, and in some respects even provident, as it would anticipate a trend followed by many in later years. After almost two decades in office, Renzo Marinai has sold the majority of the farm to Tom Heidman, a Dutch citizen with a passion for wine and Italy and a background in the food and wine world.
Grapes used
50% Sangiovese
50% Cabernet Sauvignon
Production method
The grapes come from approximately 33 hectares of vineyards in the so-called Conca d’Oro del Chianti Classico, with exposure to the South-West cultivated with organic classified agriculture. The grapes are matured and then harvested by hand around the second half of September. The processes of crushing and destemming of the grapes are carried out strictly respecting the berry in order to preserve the aromas. After fermentation on the skins for about 20 days, the wine ages in barriques for 12/14 months. The cellar where the wine ages is pervaded by the notes of Mozart’s classical music, able to contribute to the best refinement of the product. This is followed by a period of refinement in the bottle before being placed on the market.

Tasting notes
It has an intense ruby red color in the glass with a slight garnet hue. On the nose aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry, black cherry, raspberry and currant, hints of vegetables typical of Cabernet, on the final bouquet of spicy and balsamic sensations: black pepper, sandalwood, sweet tobacco, eucalyptus. Robust and powerful in the mouth, soft, persistent but elegant acidity and tannins.
Possible combinations
To be combined with red meat main courses such as the traditional Florentine steak, but also with a more cooked dish such as game. Also goes very well with a platter of aged cheeses. Top for those who want to try something innovative in the Chianti Classico panorama.
