Montevertine was purchased by Sergio Manetti in 1967 as a holiday home and, thinking of producing wine for himself and for friends and relatives, he planted some Sangiovese vineyards. The results obtained were already so surprising that he decided to send a few bottles to Vinitaly in Verona and it was immediately a great success. From then on we decide to get serious, Sergio will dedicate himself exclusively to the production of wine, increasing the quality every year. The company has its own land at 425 m above sea level. and is located in Radda in Chianti and only typical varieties of the denomination are grown including Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino.
The grapes are harvested at different times of the year depending on the variety, but strictly by hand, to preserve the freshness and quality of the grape as much as possible. The latter then ferment in contact with the skins in concrete tanks for 21 days. Subsequently the wine ages for at least 24 months in Slavonian and Allier oak barrels and rests for another 3 months in the bottle before actually being released onto the market.
Intense red wine with notes of red fruit, spices, toasting and vanilla. Soft and enveloping, with ripe tannins and a spicy and persistent finish.
Montevertine is the company’s historic line; deep wine, with a good degree of maturity and complexity, is suitable for revealing the character and savoir-faire of the company. Excellent on game and red meats, or on platters and selections of tasty, mature cheeses. Also ideal as a meditation wine.
