Description
History
La Massa is located in Panzano and was born from the will of Giampaolo Motta, who decided to invest in his personal vision. Giampaolo comes from a family linked to the leather industry, but he has always been passionate about the world of wine; after studying at the Bordeaux wine institute he returned to Italy and worked for some well-known companies in the Chianti Classico area. He will then buy the La Massa farm and begin his journey / revolution with this company. After 10 years he leaves the Chianti Classico consortium, determined to experiment with the Bordeaux style down to the smallest detail. Then the two highly successful labels of the company will arrive: “La Massa” which is a blend of the typical Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which combines the vivacity and freshness of Sangiovese and Chianti Classico with a greater elegance derived from international vines, as if to unite these two territories through an invisible thread and “Giorgio Primo”, a Bordeaux blend in all respects dedicated to his grandfather, to whom he had promised to create a great wine with aging potential.
Grapes used

Production method
The harvest takes place in different periods according to the variety; the merlot usually ripens around the end of August and the beginning of September, followed by the sangiovese in September and the cabernet around the beginning of October. The grapes are harvested by hand and selected both in the vineyard and in the cellar, then fermented in stainless steel at a controlled temperature. The wine is then drawn off and 20% left to age in new barriques, the remainder from second or third passage for about 24 months. Subsequently the wine is bottled and a period of refinement in the bottle will follow before being placed on the market.

Tasting notes
Intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose notes of ripe fruit such as cherry, raspberry and blackberry, with mineral, herbaceous and vegetable sensations. Nice spice notes such as vanilla, tobacco and black pepper and cloves. On the palate the wine is youthful, lively, soft and with a good structure; it closes with a fresh, lively and tannic finish, but very elegant.
Possible combinations
La Massa is an excellently made red wine, which perfectly blends the lively and free-range character of the Sangiovese del Chianti with a greater elegance and harmony given by the international varieties and by a wise use of the barrique. The wine is also perfect to be appreciated by the glass; in combination instead we see it well with dishes of tasty white meat or red meat or game.
