Description
History
The Leone de Castris company, founded in 1665 by Oronzo Arcangelo Maria Francesco dei Conti di Lemos, is one of the longest-lived in Italy. In 1943 the winery created the legendary Five Roses, the first rosé bottled in Italy, thus renamed by an American general who asked for a large supply to be sent to the United States. Today the production includes about 2.5 million bottles and combines the traditional vines with international vines such as Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The commercial network exports their products all over the world.
Grapes used
100% Chardonnay
Production method
The vineyards from which the grapes come have an average age of about 15 years. The maritime and climate influence greatly influence the final result of the wine, which will have good body and complexity. After harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and pressed and undergo a cold maceration process. The alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature of 14-16°C and subsequently the wine rests on the fine lees for about 3 months before bottling.
Alcohol content
12.5%
Tasting notes
Intense and warm straw yellow colour. On the nose aromas of tropical fruit such as banana, pineapple and mango, notes of wild herbs, Mediterranean scrub, hay and almond. In the mouth it is soft and enveloping, warm, balanced by an excellent final freshness. Aftertaste and very fine finish.
Possible combinations
“Imago” Chardonnay is perfect for lovers of Chardonnay, a vine capable of giving sensations of softness and alcohol but at the same time surprising with an extraordinary freshness and ease of drinking. Precisely for these characteristics this wine is perfect as an aperitif or to drink by the glass. In combination we see it well with tasty grilled fish dishes, shellfish, seafood pasta dishes or delicate steamed fish. Also excellent with some lightly spiced white meat dishes.
