The Poggio di Sotto estate was founded in 1989 and is located on a hilly area south-east of Montalcino. Since its inception, the name of the structure has established itself on the markets for the great quality with which Sangiovese is cultivated, quickly achieving great critical success for its wines.
The vineyards from which the grapes with which this wine is produced come are located at various altitudes: 200, 300 and 450 m above sea level. The grapes are harvested manually with careful selection of the bunches. Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels thanks to indigenous yeasts. Aging takes place in oak barrels of approximately 30 l for a period of 24 months, with further rest in the bottle for another 6 months. The wine is not filtered before bottling.
At sight, the wine is brick red in color, with bright notes. On the nose notes of ripe coffee spices, roasting and liquorice, with notes of delicate ripe red fruit of blackcurrant and raspberry, aromatic herbs, cedar and dried flowers. On the palate the wine is robust, enveloping and delicate, with great structure, silky but always bright tannins and a fresh and surprising acidity.
Perfect if conceived as a meditation wine or to pair with structured red meat or game dishes.
