Description
History
François Longueteau’s Esperance distillery is the oldest and smallest in Guadeloupe, founded in 1890. Located in Basseterre, it offers a splendid view of the ocean and the island of Marie Galante. Longueteau is the sole owner of Habitation Longueteau, which covers an area of 70 hectares, with sugar cane crops R 579 and cane bleue B 69.566, used to produce Karukera rum, a brand created together with Sylvain Guzzo and aged in French oak barrels.
Production method
The cane juice is soaked with water from the Soufrière spring, and the fermentation takes place without any addition of antifoaming or acidifying substances, a very rare case in the production of agricultural rhum and the distillation takes place in the classic Creole columns. The aging cellar is divided between white oak and French oak barrels.
