Description
History
The recent history of the Niedrist company begins a long time ago in Ronco a Cornaiano, in the splendid Oltradige wine-growing area, as the current estate has belonged to the family for more than 170 years. In 1989 Ignaz and Elisabeth Niedrist will then resume wine production with the aim of producing wines of great depth and quality. New lands were therefore acquired which made it possible to greatly differentiate the variety and styles of the wines produced, with the inclusion, among others, of a Lagrein vineyard. Today the company combines stylistic and qualitative growth with the growth of the family nucleus, seeing the new generations employed: therefore Maria, Franz and Johannes Niedrist are at work, bringing new knowledge and experience to the company.
Grapes used
Pinot noir (locally Blauburgunder) 100%
Production method
The vineyards from which the grapes used to produce this wine derive are located on the old plot of the Niedrist family on which the ancestors already cultivated Pinot Noir. The vines were replanted in the mid-80s and are now about 30 years old. The grape harvest takes place in early September. The grapes are cold pre-fermented to enhance the aromas, after which they carry out the actual fermentation in oak vats in contact with the skins. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and aging in barriques (of which about 25% are new) in contact with its lees for about 14 months. A period of refinement in the bottle follows before being placed on the market.

Tasting notes
Pale ruby red color with light garnet reflections. On the nose notes of small red fruits among which we perceive raspberry, currant, pomegranate seeds, blueberries and blackberries, notes of dried violet flowers, butcher’s broom and nettle. Spicy notes of vanilla, licorice and cocoa, with hints of iodized minerals. In the mouth balanced, soft, with a light and fine body. Light and elegant tannins, the finish is closed by a lively acidity and a long spicy persistence.
Possible combinations
Pinot nero Riserva by Niedrist is confirmed to be an example of elegance in wine and a great meditation wine, especially if left to age for a few years in the cellar. In combination it is perfect with rather tasty and spicy red or white meat dishes.
