Description

History

Montevertine was purchased by Sergio Manetti in 1967 as a holiday home and, thinking of producing wine for himself and for friends and relatives, he planted some Sangiovese vineyards. The results obtained were already so surprising that he decided to send a few bottles to Vinitaly in Verona and it was immediately a great success, certainly also thanks to the advice of Giulio Gambelli, the most expert connoisseur of Sangiovese of the time. From then on we decide to get serious, Sergio will dedicate himself exclusively to the production of wine, increasing the quality every year. The company has its own land at 425 m above sea level. and is located in Radda in Chianti and only typical varieties of the denomination are grown including Sangiovese, Canaiolo and Colorino.

Sangiovese 100%

Production method

All the grapes come from the vineyards of the same name, which also represent the best and most suitable part of the company’s plots. The grapes are harvested strictly by hand to preserve quality. The latter then ferment in contact with the skins in concrete tanks for 25 days. Subsequently the wine ages for at least 24 months in total, of which 1 year in new barriques, and the other year in Slavonian oak barrels. It rests for another 3 months in the bottle before actually being released onto the market.

Tasting notes

Intense and dark ruby red color, with garnet hints. On the nose, a very elegant and precious succession of aromas including ripe cherry, dried plum and raspberry and berry jam, with dried violets; intense spice bouquet of black pepper, cloves, toasting, vanilla and arabica, licorice and dark chocolate. On the palate it is soft and harmonious, intriguing and with a good structure; counterbalanced by hard components such as fine acidity, velvety tannins and a background of minerality. The finish is once again a symphony of elegance, with very long hints of ripe fruit and spices.
