Description
History
The O Reizinho distillery, founded in 1982 by Florentino Izildo Gouviea Ferreira, is renowned for producing traditional agricole rums using artisanal methods. Located on the island of Madeira, the distillery employs manual techniques in harvesting and processing sugarcane, natural fermentation, and distillation in wood-fired copper pot stills. This bottling, curated by That Boutique-y Rum Company, represents a rare opportunity to savor a briefly aged Madeira agricole rum, highlighting the unique characteristics of the local terroir.
Production method
This rum is made from fresh sugarcane juice, naturally fermented for 3-4 days and distilled in copper pot stills. The distillate is then aged for 9 months in casks that previously held fortified Madeira wine, imparting additional complexity and a bright golden hue to the rum. Bottled at 57% ABV, it retains the intensity and vibrancy typical of agricole rums.
