Description
History
Marilena Barbera is the owner and winemaker at Cantine Barbera, a boutique winery located in Menfi, on the southwestern coast of Sicily. Her family has been cultivating vineyards for three generations, starting with her grandfather who planted the first indigenous vineyards in the 1920s. Today, Marilena continues the family tradition with a production philosophy that combines natural and sustainable methods to create wines that authentically reflect the Sicilian terroir.
Grapes used
-
100% Nero d’Avola
Production method
The grapes are hand-harvested in the first half of September, when the tannins reach perfect phenolic ripeness. After destemming and crushing, the must undergoes a short pre-fermentative cold maceration to extract the freshest and fruitiest aromas. Alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts and lasts about 6 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then ages on fine lees in stainless steel tanks for 3 months and subsequently in neutral Slavonian oak barrels for another 3 months.
Alcohol content
