History

Lunatica 2020 Il Torchio Vino Artigianale 75 cl bottle is a wine produced by the Il Torchio company, which is located within the DOC of Colli di Luni precisely, between the provinces of La Spezia and Massa-Carrara. 6.5 hectares of biodynamic cultivation, located in the hills below the village of Castelnuovo Magra, is now run by two young brothers, Gilda and Edoardo Musetti, who continue this company, a legacy from their grandfather. The company was founded in 1978 and today produces 40,000 bottles. In addition to respecting the plant in the vineyard and the product in all its stages during the winemaking process, the labels are specially designed by the local artist Francesco Musante.

Production method

Respect for deadlines and the production capacity of the vineyards for this company that aims to produce artisanal wines is everything: the grapes are harvested strictly by hand in crates. Half of the product is macerated for 5 days on the skins placed in large tubs and the fermentation ends spontaneously in used barriques. The other half ferments, keeping the whole grain grapes in amphorae for about 7 months; the prolonged stay on the skins ensures that there is an initial extraction of colour, aromas and tannins from the skins, elements that are returned to the skins themselves over time, “losing” some of these characteristics and refining the final result. In fact, the product then appears of a very intense amber yellow, but not exactly orange in color as happens with other types of macerated white wine.

Tasting notes

At sight the wine appears in a deep and intense amber yellow color, with honeyed nuances and orange reflections. On the nose the bouquet is intense and decisive. There are sensations of apricot and peach jam, citrus peel, ripe grapefruit and melon, balanced by hints of peppermint leaves and eucalyptus. A powerful marine minerality is always the master. Full and mature in the mouth, initially round and a little unbalanced. The sensations of ripe fruit return which are “cut” on the finish by a good acidity but once again by a very present minerality.
