History

AgriPunica is a joint venture born from the vision of Tenuta San Guido di Sassicaia, the Cantina di Santadi, its president Antonio Pilloni and the oenologist Giacomo Tachis. The company was created with the vision of creating an extraordinary wine in Sardinia on the advice of the oenologist Tachis, who had previously identified the potential of the area.

Production method

The grapes are harvested strictly by hand to preserve their quality. Fermentation in contact with the skins takes place in vats at a controlled temperature of 25-30°C which lasts about 15 days. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and is then placed in French oak barriques for aging which lasts 15 months and for another 7-8 directly in the bottle.

Tasting notes

Intense ruby red colour. On the nose notes of black cherry, raspberry, blackberry and mulberry, eucalyptus balanced by notes of spices such as sweet tobacco and vanilla. In the mouth it is soft, velvety and elegant, with ripe tannins and very balanced acidity. Long and pleasant finish.

Possible combinations

Montessu is perfect in combination with rich and substantial first courses with meat sauces or with local Sardinian specialties such as roast suckling pig and other roasted meats, or semi-mature Sardinian pecorino or other selections of semi-mature and/or tasty cheeses. Very pleasant to consume also by the glass.

Brand

Argiolas

Antonio Argiolas at the end of the Thirties founded the homonymous winery in Serdiana, in the South of Sardinia. For decades he has worked to ensure that the name of the winery and the quality of the wines produced constantly improve, even after passing the baton to his own children. Argiolas' decision to expand production in the 1970s was fundamental, in contrast with the rest of the producers encouraged by the state to uproot their vineyards, as well as the collaboration with the oenologist Giacomo Tachis. In 1988 the "Turriga" received high marks and awards in the Vinitaly, and is among the best wines produced in Sardinia; the same happens on the occasion of Vinitaly in 1997, almost 10 years later with the recognition also of the "tre Bicchieri" from Gambero Rosso. Since 1991, the winemaker of reference has been Mariano Murru and the cellar is currently under the guidance of Franco and Giuseppe Argiolas and their children, who represent the third generation of the company.
