Description

History
Cantina Girlan was founded in 1923 in the village of Cornaiano (Girlan), in the heart of Alto Adige’s Oltradige area. The name 448 s.l.m. refers to the altitude of the winery’s historic farmhouse, located 448 metres above sea level. The Vernatsch grapes come from several vineyards across the estate, where mineral-rich glacial soils contribute to the wine’s elegance and authentic regional character.

Grape variety
100% Vernatsch (Schiava).

Vinification
The grapes are harvested by hand in small containers to preserve their quality. After destemming, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. An extended maceration enhances colour and gentle tannin extraction. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in stainless steel, while ageing takes place in concrete tanks to preserve freshness and varietal purity.

Alcohol content
12.5%.

Tasting notes
Bright ruby red in colour. The bouquet reveals delicate aromas of violet, fresh cherry and almond. On the palate it is velvety, soft and elegant, with gentle tannins, lively freshness and excellent drinkability, finishing harmoniously with subtle spicy nuances.

Food pairings
Excellent with cured meats, South Tyrolean speck, dumplings, pasta dishes, roast poultry, white meats, mushroom-based recipes, medium-aged cheeses and Mediterranean cuisine. Best served slightly chilled at 12-14 °C.
