History
Marilena Barbera is a third-generation winemaker leading her family’s estate in Menfi, on Sicily’s western coast. Although Frappato is traditionally associated with other Sicilian regions, Marilena chose to cultivate it in her vineyards near the sea, leveraging Menfi’s unique climate and soil conditions to craft a wine that reveals a new dimension of this indigenous variety. Her production philosophy is rooted in natural and sustainable farming practices, with a strong commitment to preserving the authenticity of the terroir.

Production method
The grapes are hand-harvested and undergo careful vinification, including spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts, without the use of enological additives. The wine matures in neutral containers to preserve the purity of the fruit and the expression of the terroir. These practices reflect Marilena’s minimalist approach, aiming to produce wines that are a genuine representation of the grape and its origin.
