Description
History
For over 250 years, the MackInnon family has jealously preserved the secret formula of Drambuie, until the significant change of ownership to William Grant & Sons.
Its name derives from the Gaelic ‘An Dram Buidheach’, which means “the drink that satisfies”. Obtained from a fine blend of Scotch whisky, Erica honey (one of Scotland’s most famous plants) and other herbs and spices, the composition of which has remained secret over the years, Drambuie declared its origin in 1745, when Prince Charles Edward Stuart fled to the Isle of Skye after his failed attempt to restore his dynasty to the throne of Scotland.
Production method
The original recipe, born from the combination of locally produced Scotch whiskey with locally sourced spices, still uses malt and grain whiskey from the renowned Highlands and Speyside regions.
