History
The Fiegl winery has a history that began in 1782, when Valentino Fiegl bought the “Meja” vineyard. Today, the Fiegl family produces red and white wines that express the richness of the Friulian terroir. Both the brothers Alessio, Giuseppe and Rinaldo and the younger generation, Martin, Robert and Matej Fiegl, are committed to the production of high quality wines with sustainable and eco-friendly techniques. The winery has an annual production of about 130,000 bottles with a cultivation of 30 hectares of vineyards.
Grapes used
Merlot 100%
Production method
The grapes are harvested manually in crates around the first ten days of October from vineyards grown on soils rich in limestone and stones. The vinification of the red wine is traditional with fermentation in open vats without temperature control and a period of maceration on the skins of about 10 days. The wine ages for 6 months in barriques and for another 6 months in steel before being marketed.

Tasting notes
Bright ruby red colour. On the nose notes of red fruit such as raspberry, pomegranate and blueberry, rose and violet petals, herbaceous and mineral notes, with a hint of vanilla. Soft and round in the mouth, full-bodied, more sharp and acid on the finish. Fruity and long, pleasant persistence in the mouth.
Possible combinations
Fiegl’s Merlot is perfect for combinations with platters of tasty cheeses and cold cuts. Also very pleasant with rather fatty and oily first courses, or with second courses such as pork fillets in wine sauce, suckling pig in a crust, baked chicken breast and other meat-based second courses. Very pleasant for lovers of the genre also to drink by the glass, given the marked roundness.
