History
Castello di Bolgheri is a historic estate located in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC denomination in Tuscany. The winery is renowned for producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the area, characterized by calcareous soils and a microclimate influenced by the proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea.
Grapes used
- 75% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 20% Cabernet Franc
- 5% Merlot
Production method
The grapes are hand-picked and selected in the cellar before destemming. Fermentation occurs partly in steel, and partly in oak vats and 500-liter barrels, with long maceration on the skins up to 30 days for Cabernet Sauvignon and up to 20 days for Cabernet Franc and Merlot, to preserve the elegance of the tannins. The wine ages for 20 months in wood, with the first 12 months in 500-liter barrels and the following 8 months in 35-hectoliter oak barrels after blending.
