Description
History
Campo al Pero is a young winery, established in 2006 by Maurizio and Doriana Cerbaro Piccoli on the gentle slopes of Bolgheri. In a few years, the company has gained recognition for the quality of its wines, producing a range that includes four Bolgheri Rosso, two Bolgheri Vermentino, and one Bolgheri Rosato.
Grapes used
- 60% Cabernet Sauvignon
- 30% Merlot
- 10% Cabernet Franc
Production method
The grapes, hand-harvested between early and mid-September, undergo fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for about two weeks. The wine matures for 12 months in various wooden containers, including barriques, tonneaux, and large Italian oak barrels, followed by at least four months of bottle aging.

Tasting notes
The wine displays an intense ruby red color with violet hues. On the nose, it offers a complex and harmonious bouquet, with fruity notes of red and black berries, complemented by vegetal, balsamic, and spicy hints, including toasted hazelnut, moss, underbrush, and eucalyptus. The palate is full and harmonious, with soft and balanced tannins and a pronounced minerality that imparts freshness and persistence.
Possible pairings
It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, game, pasta dishes with meat sauces, and aged cheeses. Also ideal with cured meat appetizers and traditional Tuscan dishes.
