Description
History
The Valentin Zusslin company was founded in 1691 and is located in Orschwihr, between Colmar and Mulhouse, in the eastern part of France, near the border between Switzerland and Germany. The 13 successive generations at the head of the company have always had the quality of the products as their primary objective in respect of the unique territorial expression of Alsace. In 1997 agriculture was converted to biodynamic: words like sustainability and biodiversity became the order of the day and development of vineyards and orchards in the creation of a virtuous circle that feeds on itself. The most cultivated grapes are Riesling, from which the rarest products are also obtained, Gewurztraminer, Pinot blanc, Pinot noir and Sylvaner.

Production method
The Riesling grapes come from the Clos de Liebenberg, the family monopoly which covers approximately 3.5 hectares. The Clos is located on the Pfingstberg hill and is surrounded by forest on the west side, by hedges to the south and east and by a wall to the north which delimits its border. The grapes are harvested strictly by hand and pressed immediately upon arrival in the cellar. The wine is then vinified in wood thanks to indigenous yeasts in order to fully develop its potential. The result is a wine capable of aging and developing further tertiary aromas over time.

Tasting notes
Deep straw yellow color with golden notes. On the nose notes of ripe yellow fruit, grapefruit, dog rose, linden, verbena and fresh white flowers. Notes of iodized minerality, hydrocarbons and marked balsamic notes with hints of white pepper and vanilla; overall born very rich and elegant. Wide, flowing and intense on the palate, with an out of the ordinary freshness and great minerality. Very long and bewitching finish.
Possible combinations
Riesling Clos de Liebenberg is a great meditation white wine for lovers of Alsatian rieslings; for us it is a great meditation wine, to be appreciated in every single nuance, even with a few years of cellar on the shoulders. In combination we see it very well with rich and tasty fish dishes, or with white meat main courses.
