Description
History
Domaine Blain‑Gagnard is a small Côte de Beaune estate established in the 1980s by the Blain and Gagnard families. They produce both reds and whites, with strong terroir focus and traditional practices. The “Les Pitures” cru benefits from favorable exposure and Volnay’s classic calcareous‑marl soils, which impart both elegance and sufficient structure. Recent versions of “Les Pitures” show a slightly more modern touch without losing Burgundy identity; for 2023 one expects transparent fruit, clear aromatics, and well‑balanced tannins.
Grape variety
Pinot Noir 100 %
Vinification
Traditional fermentation in wood barrels and steel vats, moderate oak use so as not to overpower fruit (in line with the domaine’s style), aging for a few years before release, with time on lees to build structure. (Exact details for 2023 not fully publicly documented yet.)
Alcohol content
Around 13‑13.5% (estimated, based on nearby vintages and climatic conditions; check the specific bottle label.)
Tasting notes
Expected bright ruby red; aromas of fresh red fruit such as cherry and raspberry, floral notes (violet), mineral/marl undertones, with a slight spice and earthy hint. On the palate elegance, vibrant acidity paired with softness, fine tannins and good length, with persistent fruit-driven finish.
Food pairing
Great with roasted white meats, mushrooms, noble poultry, light game, dishes with truffles or mushrooms, and with cheeses that are not overly aged. Serve at about 16‑18 °C.
