Description
History
Vallepicciola is located in Pievasciata, within the prestigious Castelnuovo Berardenga area of Chianti Classico. The Lapina vineyard is regarded as one of the estate’s most prized sites thanks to its altitude, exposure and soil composition. This Gran Selezione is produced exclusively from estate-grown grapes and represents the flagship expression of the winery.
Grape variety
Sangiovese 100%.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with approximately 15 days of skin maceration. Malolactic fermentation takes place in French oak. The wine then ages for around 24–26 months in barriques, tonneaux and large oak casks, followed by 6–8 months in bottle before release.
Alcohol content
14%.
Tasting notes
Deep ruby red with violet highlights. The bouquet reveals ripe plum, blackberry, black cherry and dark berry aromas, complemented by elegant notes of vanilla, sweet tobacco, spice and balsamic nuances. On the palate it is rich and structured with firm yet polished tannins, vibrant freshness and a long finish marked by dark fruit, spice and mineral complexity.
Food pairings
Excellent with Florentine steak, braised meats, game, lamb, wild boar dishes and aged cheeses. Its structure and complexity also make it an outstanding wine for cellaring and contemplative drinking.
