Description
History
Tignanello broke tradition in the 1970s as the first Italian wine aged in barrique with a Sangiovese‑Cabernet blend. The 1998 vintage reflects the Chianti Classico terroir through steel fermentation, barrique malolactic, and approximately 12–14 months barrel aging.
Grape varieties
80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc.
Vinification
Following extended maceration and malolactic in barrel, it is aged for 12–14 months in barrique to develop structure and aromatic depth .
Alcohol content
13.5% ABV.
Tasting notes
Intense ruby red, with aromas of red berries, leather, wet earth, tobacco, and a hint of toasted vanilla. The palate is rich, elegant, with polished tannins, solid freshness, and a long, spicy-salty finish.
Suggested pairings
Pairs beautifully with roasted or braised red meats, game, Florentine steak, and aged cheeses. Decant for 1–2 hours and cellar until around 2035 for continued development.
