Description
History
Founded in 1849 in Épernay, Pol Roger remains one of Champagne’s most respected family-owned houses. Famously the favourite Champagne of Sir Winston Churchill, the estate has built its reputation on consistency, elegance and meticulous craftsmanship. Brut Réserve is the flagship cuvée of the house, produced each year using around 25% reserve wines and aged for an extended period in the historic cellars located 33 metres underground.
Grape variety
34% Chardonnay, 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier.
Vinification
The grapes are gently pressed immediately after harvest. Each grape variety and cru is vinified separately in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by full malolactic fermentation. After blending with approximately 25% reserve wines, the Champagne undergoes secondary fermentation in bottle and matures on its lees for at least four years. Every bottle is traditionally hand-riddled before disgorgement and dosage.
Alcohol content
12.5%.
Tasting notes
Brilliant golden straw colour with abundant, exceptionally fine bubbles. The bouquet reveals aromas of pear, mango and orchard fruit, followed by honeysuckle, white jasmine, vanilla and freshly baked brioche. On the palate it is vibrant and harmonious, offering flavours of quince jelly, apricot preserve, acacia honey, beeswax and candied orange peel, finishing long with elegant hints of cardamom and anise.
Food pairings
Outstanding as an aperitif, it pairs beautifully with oysters, shellfish, sushi, seafood tartare, baked fish, seafood risotto, poultry, soft cheeses and is structured enough to accompany an entire meal with elegance.
