Description
History
Frank Cornelissen is a Belgian winemaker who chose Mount Etna to produce natural wines that authentically reflect the volcanic terroir. The Porcaria vineyard, located at 640 meters above sea level in the municipality of Castiglione di Sicilia, is considered one of the finest areas for cultivating Nerello Mascalese, thanks to its exposure and soil composition.
Grapes used
- 100% Nerello Mascalese
Production method
- Vinification: Destemming and light crushing of the grapes.
- Fermentation: Initiated with a “pied-de-cuve” using only indigenous yeasts and skin contact for about 50 days.
- Aging: In neutral fiberglass tanks ranging from 1,500 to 2,500 liters for 18 months, followed by an additional 18 months in bottle.
- Fining and filtration: No fining; filtration before bottling with 5-micron PP cartridges.
- Sulfur: Levels can vary from 15 to 50 mg/l, added or not, depending on grape quality and wine stability.
Alcohol content
- 14.5% vol.
Tasting notes
Munjebel Rosso PA 2021 displays an intense ruby red color in the glass. On the nose, it reveals a complex bouquet of ripe red fruits, wild herbs, and savory spices. On the palate, the wine is elegant, showcasing remarkable character and personality. It is finely balanced with vibrant acidity, refined tannins, and a distinctive minerality that reflects its volcanic origins. The finish is long and captivating, leaving a harmonious and lasting impression.
Possible pairings
This wine pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as wild game ragù, grilled and roasted meats, and aged cheeses. It is also a perfect match for braised beef stews with tomatoes and peas, enhancing the rich flavors of the dish.
