Description
History
Founded in 1665 in Salice Salentino, Leone De Castris is one of the historic symbols of Apulian winemaking. Five Roses was born during World War II when American General Charles Poletti requested a rosé wine for Allied troops stationed in southern Italy. From that request came the first bottled rosé wine in Italy, which later became an international symbol of Salento rosé winemaking. Today it is still produced in a fresh, fruity and terroir-driven style.
Grape variety
Predominantly Negroamaro with Malvasia Nera
Vinification
The grapes are harvested during the first part of September and gently destemmed and crushed. A short cold skin maceration extracts aromas and the wine’s characteristic bright cherry-pink colour. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by brief ageing in steel and bottle to preserve freshness and aromatic vibrancy.
Alcohol content
12.5%
Tasting notes

Food pairings
Perfect with Salento-style frisa bread, seafood starters, risottos, grilled fish, sushi, white meats, delicate cured meats and Mediterranean summer cuisine. Also excellent as a refined and convivial aperitif.
