Description

History

Pierluca Beneventano della Corte likes to define himself as a “garagist” winemaker, because to make wine from his small production of grapes he has to be hosted in the cellars of other producers. Although his family has been dedicated to agriculture in Sicily for over 200 years, in 2015 he decided to start his personal adventure in viticulture starting from two terraced vineyards in a state of semi-abandonment. The first in Viagrande in the Salto del Corvo – San Giovannello area at 650 meters above sea level, surrounded by two inactive volcanic cones: Monte Ilice and Monte Gorna. The second in Trecastagni, in the Carpene district, at 800 meters above sea level, equipped with an 18th century millstone. A total of four hectares of vineyards cultivated with Etna saplings, some centuries old.
All the soils are characterized by volcanic sands, which give the wines intense fruity and spicy notes, also enhanced by the wide temperature ranges typical of the eastern side of Etna.
There are three wines produced: Radici Rosso, from Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio grapes, Radici Bianco, from Carricante, Catarratto and Minnella grapes, and Radici Rosato, produced however only in some years.
The choice of the name “Radici” for all his wines is evocative of the journey that Pierluca is making in his family’s land, recovering abandoned vines and terraces, protecting tradition and nature.
