Description

History

Corte Sant’Alda is one of the leading estates in Valpolicella’s organic and biodynamic wine movement, guided by Marinella Camerani. The winery is located in Mezzane di Sotto, in the eastern part of the appellation, where vineyards, olive groves and woodlands create a landscape rich in biodiversity. The name Cà Fiui refers to the historic hillside settlement where the estate’s winery is situated, a place closely connected to the area’s agricultural heritage. Marinella Camerani’s winemaking philosophy emphasises respect for natural cycles, healthy soils and the preservation of Valpolicella’s traditional grape varieties. Cà Fiui is produced from several vineyards in Val di Mezzane, located at approximately 350 metres above sea level and predominantly facing southeast, where favourable ripening conditions contribute to a wine combining aromatic intensity, elegance and freshness.

Grape variety

40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella, 5% Molinara.

Vinification

The grapes come from vineyards cultivated according to organic and biodynamic principles on the hillsides of Val di Mezzane. Following harvest, fermentation takes place spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in 40-hectolitre wooden vats. Skin maceration lasts approximately 15-20 days, allowing balanced extraction of colour, aromas and tannins. The wine subsequently ages for around 6-10 months in large truncated-cone oak vats, which help harmonise its structure without overwhelming the fruit. This approach preserves the identity of the traditional grape varieties, resulting in an elegant, fresh and naturally expressive Valpolicella.

Tasting notes

Bright ruby red with lively violet reflections. The nose reveals fragrant aromas of cherry, raspberry and small red berries, complemented by black pepper, cinnamon, aromatic herbs and woodland undergrowth. The palate is fresh, smooth and harmonious, with juicy fruit supported by vibrant acidity and delicate, well-integrated tannins. The structure is beautifully balanced, with appealing mineral and spicy nuances adding depth without compromising drinkability. The finish is clean, persistent and subtly savoury, with elegant lingering notes of red fruit and spice.

Food pairings

Cà Fiui is an exceptionally versatile Valpolicella, ideal with charcuterie, rustic appetisers, pasta with meat ragù and mushroom risotto. It also pairs beautifully with roast poultry, grilled pork, rabbit, polenta with rich sauces and medium-aged cheeses. Its freshness makes it an interesting match for flavourful baked fish and traditional Mediterranean fish stews. Best served at around 15-17 °C, slightly chilled during the warmer months.
