Description
History
Il Monticello is located in Sarzana, between Liguria and Tuscany, where the influence of the Ligurian Sea meets the Apuan Alps. Managed by the Neri family with a strong commitment to sustainable viticulture, the estate has become one of the benchmarks of the Colli di Luni appellation. First released in 2018, Argille Grigie was created as a special selection from the winery’s finest vineyards to produce a Vermentino with outstanding depth and ageing potential.
Grape variety
100% Vermentino.
Vinification
The grapes are hand-harvested and gently pressed before fermenting in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 14–18 °C. The wine is then aged for several months in stainless steel to preserve its aromatic purity, mineral precision and freshness. It is designed to develop beautifully in bottle for up to ten years.
Alcohol content
Between 13% and 14% ABV, depending on the vintage.
Tasting notes
Brilliant golden yellow in colour. The bouquet opens with pronounced minerality and distinctive balsamic aromas reminiscent of Mediterranean herbs, particularly thyme and rosemary. As it evolves in the glass, ripe fruit notes emerge, adding complexity and elegance. The palate is full-bodied, harmonious and persistent, supported by vibrant freshness and a long, saline mineral finish.
Food pairings
An excellent match for raw seafood, shellfish, grilled or baked fish, as well as white meats such as Ligurian-style rabbit. Its structure also makes it a superb companion to foie gras and refined gourmet cuisine.
