Description
History
The Francesca Castaldi Winery is located in Briona, on the Novara hills, and is dedicated to producing high-quality wines, emphasizing the native grapes of Alto Piemonte. The family’s winemaking tradition dates back to the 1700s, with a continuous commitment to enhancing the territory and its unique characteristics.
Grapes used
- 70% Nebbiolo
- 30% Vespolina
Production method
- Harvest: Manual harvest in the early weeks of October, with careful grape selection.
- Vinification: Spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts for about two weeks; 30-day maceration, with the last 15 days under submerged cap.
- Aging: 24 months in 20 hl oak barrels, followed by a period in steel tanks for further clarification, without filtration, and subsequent bottle aging.
Alcohol content
- 13.5% vol.
Tasting notes
- Color: Intense ruby red.
- Aroma: Characteristic aromas of violet, rose, almond, and wild berries.
- Taste: Full, robust, and dry, with vigorous yet well-integrated tannins and distinctive spiciness from the Vespolina grape.

Pairs excellently with braised meats, game, and aged cheeses.
