Description
History
The Grattamacco winery and farm is located an hour’s drive from the ColleMassari Castle. The structure is located in the beating heart of the Bolgheri DOC denomination between Castagneto Carducci and Bolgheri in a raised position at 100-150 m, which enjoys a panoramic view of the Tuscan coast. The vineyards are naturally protected by Mediterranean scrub and caressed by sea breezes which deposit mineral substances on the ground and prevent the formation of molds harmful to the fruit. This particular terroir combined with the great knowledge in the wine field make Grattamacco an established brand worldwide.

Production method
The grapes are harvested when optimal polyphenolic ripeness is reached at different times depending on the variety. Subsequently they are destemmed and softly pressed and spontaneous fermentation takes place in truncated cone-shaped wooden vats, followed by manual punching down and long maceration of the skins. The refinement is carried out in French oak barriques for 18 months, with a further refinement of 12 months in the bottle.

Tasting notes
Dark ruby red colour. On the nose, a rich and complex, fine and very elegant bouquet of red fruits, pepper given by Cabernet, undergrowth and Mediterranean scrub, with evolution of rosemary, vanilla and chocolate. In the mouth fruity, elegant and ripe, soft and balanced by silky tannins and final acidity. The persistence is long and enveloping, reminiscent of spicy and Mediterranean notes.
Possible combinations
Grattamacco Bolgheri Superiore is in our opinion a great meditation wine, practically perfect and balanced in every component and nuance; with the passing of a few years of rest in the cellar, it improves significantly, enriching itself with many nuances. In combination it is perfect with tasty and well-cooked red meats or with game, also excellent with stews and aged cheeses.
